Lenovo unveils ThinkPad X1 Extreme with 4K Dolby vision display and Nvidia graphics

31 August 2018 2

As expected the IFA 2018 is full of new gadgets, all OEMs are announcing new products to lure customers across the globe. We have seen a number of new laptops, PCs, OLEDs, smart home products, headphones and much more. Today we have the best-in-class new ThinkPad X1 Extreme announced by Lenovo at the event.

The ThinkPad X1 Extreme is featuring a 15.6-inches display, considering its hardware specs and design it will target the Dell XPS 15 and Apple MacBook Pro. Despite having one of the best hardware it is lighter than the aforementioned two laptops at 3.75 pounds.

Being a power-house the ThinkPad X1 Extreme is packed with the best possible hardware in the market. The Coffe Lake Core i7 Processor is powering the machine with up to 64GB DDR4 RAM and native PCIe SSD storage up to 2TB. It will be available in a number of configurations, the base variant has 15.6-inches IPS display with Full HD screen resolution whereas the top of the line model comes with 4K IPS display with Dolby Vision and HDR.

If you are not satisfied with the Core i7 performance, the Core i9 variant will be released later in December this year. The Nvidia's GeForce 1050 Ti is on board to take care of graphics. So the PC will not only handle HIFI multi-tasking tasks but also pretty much capable to easily handle latest games. To ensure the machine doesn't get too hot on extreme usage, the ThinkPad X1 comes with dual-fans.

In terms of design, the ThinkPad X1 Extreme isn't much different from regular ThinkPad lineup laptops. The chassis is made up of carbon fiber. As security features, the ThinkPad X1 features a fingerprint scanner on the keyboard as well as Windows Hello for added security. It is running on the Windows 10 Pro straight out of the box.

An 80Whr battery is on board to keep the ThinkPad X1 Extreme lights on and also supports the company's RapidCharge tech. On a single charge, it can survive up to 13 hours. The company claims the battery will charge up to 80% within an hour. For connectivity, it comes with 2 Thunderbolt 3 and USB 3.1 ports, HDMI 2.0 and a slot for SD card reader. Last but not the least it will be available for purchase in September this year at a price tag of $1859.99.
