31 October 2018 6

After tons of leaks and rumors finally, OnePlus 6T is official as the latest flagships killer from the company. Being the "T" variant it brings iterative changes over the predecessor. In many aspects, the latest OnePlus 6T shares a lot of aspects with the OnePlus 6. However, it still brings few improvements in the design, display, software, cameras, and battery.

Like always whenever a new phone is announced everyone is keen to know how well it competes against other phones of the same niche. Being the latest Android flagship the OnePlus 6T will have to compete against Apple's latest flagship. If you are amongst those who are looking to grab a new flagship phone, for sure you will consider the latest OnePlus 6T as well as the latest iPhone XR.

The iPhone XR is currently the latest entry-level phone from Apple. Although it doesn't have all the latest goodies like the iPhone Xs or iPhone Xs Max still it is good enough to challenge the latest premium phones in the market. It will be an interesting battle to see how the latest OnePlus 6t stacks up against the iPhone XR. Both the devices have a lot of aspects to lure those buyers who are not willing to spend a hefty amount on their upcoming flagship companion. Without any further ado, let's start with the design.

The iPhone X was the first phone in the market with a notch design. The huge success of iPhone X prompted others OEMs to follow the notch design. This year Chinese OEMs stepped up their game by further reducing the notch to water drop notch. The iPhone XR retains the notch of last year's iPhone X whereas the OnePlus 6T is the first phone from the company with the water drop notch.

Both the device's chassis are made up of aluminum with glass covering the rear side. The OnePlus 6T edges are round from the edges whereas the iPhone XR has flat edges. The edge-to-edge display on both the devices look pretty awesome, however, due to round corners, the OnePlus 6T aesthetics are more striking. The OnePlus 6T comes with in-glass fingerprint scanner whereas the iPhone XR lacks fingerprint scanner instead it has facial recognition as the only biometric option.

The company claims the OnePlus 6T's under glass fingerprint scanner is the fastest and most accurate in the world. On the rear side, the iPhone XR has a single snapper on the top left corner whereas the OnePlus 6T retains the dual sensors on the rear aligned vertically in the center. For the first time, OnePlus dropped the 3.5mm headphone jack for their latest phone whereas the iPhone XR also lacks the traditional headphone jack. Both rely on the USB-C port for connectivity and charging.

In terms of audio capabilities, the OnePlus 6T rely on the single bottom firing speaker whereas the iPhone XR has stereo audio output due to earpiece and bottom firing speakers sound. The OnePlus 6T lacks any IP-ratings unlike most of the latest premium phones. On the other hand, the iPhone XR comes with IP67 certification which means it can resist under 1-meter deep water for 30 minutes without any damage.

The OnePlus 6T is only available in two colors including Midnight Black and Mirror Black whereas the iPhone XR is available in six different striking colors including Coral, Blue, White, Red, Black, and Yellow. OnePlus likes to release new colors after a few months, we can expect same will be the case with the OnePlus 6T.

The OnePlus 6T comes with a large display of 6.41-inches whereas the iPhone XR is slightly smaller at 6.1-inches. Surprisingly despite having a smaller display, the iPhone XR is almost the same thicker and wider like the OnePlus 6T.

In terms of screen resolution, the OnePlus 6T remains at Full HD+ with 1080 x 2340 pixels whereas iPhone XR has 828 x 1792 pixels resolution. Another important aspect is OnePlus 6T features an AMOLED display with a pixels density of 402 pixels-per-inch. Its display is protected with the Corning Gorilla Glass 6.

The iPhone XR is currently the only iPhone with LCD display. Its pixels density is 326 pixels-per-inch and protected with the Scratch-resistant glass. The company claims the iPhone XR comes with the sturdiest scratch resistant glass ever utilized on an iPhone. Due to deep black, better resolution and colors accuracy the OnePlus 6T is a better option amongst the two. If you don't like a notch on either of the phones you can remove it with a black bar from settings.

Under the hood, both the devices are packed with the latest best hardware. The iPhone XR has an advantage of having the latest A12 Bionic chipset whereas the OnePlus 6T retains the Snapdragon 845 chipset similar like the OnePlus 6. Another important aspect is A12 Bionic is the first 7nm chipset in the market whereas the Snapdragon 845 is built on the second gen 10nm FinFet process. The Snapdragon 845 successor is due in the next few months. All benchmark results showcase the A12 Bionic is currently the most powerful chipset in the market.

The OnePlus 6T is available in two configurations 6GB and 8GB RAM. The base model has 6GB RAM with 128GB storage, the standard model has 8GB RAM with 128GB storage and top of the line model with 256GB storage. On the other hand, the iPhone XR comes with 3GB RAM and either 64GB or 256GB native storage. Both the devices lack support for memory expansion via MicroSD.

Although OnePlus 6T isn't as fast as iPhone XR currently it is rate as one of the fastest phones in the Android market. Both these phones are ultra fast in handling hefty multi-tasking tasks and HIFI games.

Apple is amongst those OEMs who rely less on hardware to improve camera capturing capabilities instead they rely on the software to optimize the camera experience. The iPhone XR retains single camera sensor on the rear to make it a budget-friendly option. Still, it can be rated amongst the best single camera module.

For the OnePlus 6T, the company paid special attention to the software optimization that's why they introduce new algorithms to detect places, objects and much more. One of key highlight of new OnePlus 6T cameras is their low-light prowess AKA Nightscape mode. One of the main drawbacks of OnePlus phones is usually average photography capabilities but now the company is paying special attention to further improve it.

The primary rear snapper is 16MP with f/1.7 aperture and optical image stabilization whereas the secondary sensor is 20MP with the same aperture but it lacks OIS. Up front, the selfie snapper is 16MP with f/2.0 aperture. The iPhone XR has an only 12MP snapper on the rear with f/1.8 aperture. Up front the selfie snapper is 7MP.

The best thing is iPhone XR can capture super slow-motion 4K videos at 60 frames per second. Both the phones can capture portrait shots, however, the OnePlus 6T has an advantage of the secondary camera to capture depth-sensing info.

The OnePlus 6T is pre-installed with the latest Android Pie straight out of the box. The iPhone XR is running on the latest iOS 12. Both the devices will receive new updates for the next few years, the iPhone XR has the advantage of getting the latest updates quickly and for a longer period. The good thing is OnePlus 6T has a thin layer over the stock version of Android, so you don't have to worry much about bloatware.

OnePlus officially confirms the 6T will receive new major software updates for the next two years and monthly security patches for the next three years. As both have the latest version of respective operating systems, now it's up to you which OS you prefer.

The OnePlus 6T comes with slightly large battery cell of 3,700mAh as compared to the predecessor. The iPhone XR lights are kept on by a 2,942mAh battery. Both the devices support fast charging, however, the iPhone XR fast charger isn't shipped straight out of the box instead you will have to purchase it separately as an accessory. Unfortunately, despite having glass rear, the OnePlus 6T lacks support for wireless charging whereas the iPhone XR supports 7.5W wireless charging.

One of the most prominent differences between the two devices is indeed the pricing difference. The OnePlus phones are known for their best value for money, the same is the case with the OnePlus 6T. The base variant can be purchased at $549 whereas the iPhone XR base model starts at $749. The $200 price difference could become a deciding aspect between the two.

Undoubtedly the OnePlus 6T is currently the only phone in the market with the best possible hardware at the aforementioned price tag. Despite the fact, the iPhone XR is the cheapest iPhone but still, it is way more expensive than the OnePlus 6T.

Both the OnePlus 6T and iPhone XR are certainly one of the best options if you are looking for a new iPhone or an Android flagship at the affordable price tag. In the design department, if you liked the last year's iPhone X, the iPhone XR is no different except the single rear snapper. The OnePlus 6T brings the new waterdrop notch to increase screen-to-body ratio.

In the display department, the OnePlus 6T has the clear advantage of larger AMOLED display with better screen resolution. The iPhone XR takes lead in the performance due to latest Bionic chipset whereas the Snapdragon 835 successor is around the corner. OnePlus claims they brought significant software improvements in the camera department. As OS both are pre-installed with the latest version of Android and iOS respectively. The iPhone XR battery is significantly smaller than the OnePlus 6T, So you can expect better battery life on the OnePlus 6T.

Why don't iPhones have as decently bigger RAM or batteries as do Android phones have? Just 3GB for an anniversary phone like the iPhone X, while the OnePlus 6T has 6GB and 8GB models?

As always Apple gets credits for being the first with a feature that other company's developed and implemented way before Apple did. In this case both Sharp and Essential developed and sold phones with a notch before Apple did.
