Xiaomi announced its last flagship phone for the year 2018 as Mi Mix 3. During the launch, there was a lot of emphasis on its camera capabilities. Now Xiaomi’s president and co-founder Bin Lin has teased about a smartphone due to launch in January next year and its camera will be a highlight.
According to the image posted on the Chinese social media site Weibo, the phone will house a monstrous 48-megapixel camera and Mr. Lin modestly calls its results “Not Bad” after a couple of week’s usage
As of now, there are a very few such sensors. One of them is the Sony IMX586, a 48-megapixel sensor which was announced back in July 2018 while the other one is a Samsung Bright GM1 snapper with a 48-megapixel sensor. Both of them featuring 0.8µm pixels.
This upcoming Xiaomi phone could feature either of the two sensors mentioned above. The Sony sensor was supposed to enter mass production phase starting September 2018 while the Samsung sensor is already being mass produced.

Coming back to the image shared by Mr. Lin, it looks like the device will have a vertically aligned multiple camera setup with a dual tone LED flash and a glass back. The phone could feature Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon 855 SoC and could very well be Xiaomi’s first 5G phone.
Since there is a limited amount of information available, we should stop guessing and wait for more information to come in. Till that time do let us know, what would you like to capture with a 48-megapixel camera?
