New reports coming out from the leaks kingdom suggest that LG’s upcoming flagship LG G8 may be a bezel-less device with a water drop notch. The phone is reported to come with a Sound-On-Display (SOD) technology previously seen in phones like the Mi Mix or the Vivo NEX. Interestingly, even Samsung is planning to showcase this technology during the upcoming tech show CES 2019.

5G may be the buzzword for the year 2019 and almost all manufacturers like Samsung, Huawei, OnePlus, Xiaomi, Vivo, Oppo etc. are getting ready with their 5G capable smartphones. A few days back we heard that LG and Samsung are gearing up for a flagship 5G smartphone launch at MWC 2019.

As per the recent reports, LG has different ideas. The South Korean company which was earlier rumored to announce its flagship from the G series with 5G capabilities may not do so now. According to a Korean online publication, LG’s first 5G phone may not be LG G8 but a totally different phone.

This strategy may work in LG’s favor since 5G technology is still far off from a global rollout. So if the flagship phone doesn’t have 5G capabilities, it will keep the costs in control and in turn LG can have premium devices running on both 4G and 5G technologies, separately.

The LG G8 may come with a water drop notch housing a selfie camera with 3D capabilities. This new camera could be helpful in improving the augmented reality capabilities, improved scene recognition and quality of the images taken. In a piece of related news, LG is also said to announce a budget-friendly LG Q9 quipped with mid-range Snapdragon 660, 4GB RAM, 32GB internal storage, and a 3,000mAh battery.
