Xiaomi Redmi Note 7 goes official with 48MP camera at $150

10 January 2019 3

Finally, the wait is over as the Chinese giant Xiaomi wraps off the cover from the first Redmi branded smartphone Redmi Note 7. So far the Redmi was Xiaomi's sub-brand, recently the company spin off the Redmi as a separate sub-brand. The Redmi Note 7 is the first smartphone under the new Redmi branding.

As teased earlier the latest Redmi Note 7 is featuring a metal chassis with glass covering the rear side. The most striking aspect of the Redmi Note 7 design is the gradient finish. On the rear side, you will get dual cameras aligned vertically on the top left corner. The fingerprint scanner is on the rear side in the center. The front-facing side has ultra-thin waterdrop notch which accompanies the selfie camera.

Apart from having the glass and metal sandwich design, the Redmi Note 7 is the company's first phone with a 48MP sensor on the rear. The company uses the Samsung's 48MP sensor on the rear with f/1.8 aperture. The secondary sensor on the rear is 5MP. The primary rear snapper utilizes the pixel-binning tech. Up front the selfie snapper is 13MP.

As far as the hardware is a concern the Redmi Note 7 features a 6.3-inches Full HD+ display with an aspect ratio of 19.5:9. Under the hood the Qualcomm's Snapdragon 660 SoC is powering the phone. A 4,000mAH battery is on board to keep its lights. The device is shipped with an 18W fast charger. For connectivity, it has USB-C port and 3.5mm headphone jack.

Last but not least, the Redmi Note 7 is an ultra-affordable smartphone. The base model with 3GB RAM and 32GB storage costs 999 Yuan. The standard model with 4GB RAM and 64GB will be available at 1,199 Yuan. The top of the line variant with 6GB RAM and 64GB storage will cost 1,399 Yuan. From the look of the things, it will be the cheapest smartphone in the market with a 48MP camera.

At the launch event, the brand also confirmed the arrival of Redmi Note 7 Pro. The first prominent difference of this device will be Sony's 48MP IMX586 sensor instead of Samsung's camera module.
