Top most anticipated smartphones of 2019

21 January 2019 5

Last year was pretty great for smartphones as we had seen many new trends. Back in 2017, Apple unveiled iPhone X as the company's first bezel-less smartphone with a wide-notch at the top of the display. During 2018 we had seen many OEMs adopted the notch design almost similar like the iPhone X. Oppo and Vivo kicked off the second quarter of 2018 with their special products Find X and Nex S respectively.

Instead of following the traditional route, Oppo opted motorized mechanism for the selfie cameras of Find X. It was indeed one of the most luring smartphones thanks to minimal bezels around the display. The Vivo Nex S has a pop-up camera sensor on the top left corner which appears when the camera app is accessed. The top-notch was further trimmed in last quarter of 2018, it was dubbed as waterdrop notch.

During last month of 2018, Samsung and Huawei announced phones with a camera hole which certainly sets the path for the phones of 2019. With each new iteration, all OEMs try to bring something different in terms of design and hardware to lure buyers, that's why after every after few months we have new design trends. Thanks to continuous leaks and rumors we are mostly well aware regarding what to expect from the upcoming phones.

We entered 2019 with the Consumer Electronics show 2019 with tons of new products ranging from PCs, Laptops, OLED, rollable displays, gaming monitors, electric vehicles, headphones and much more. Now we are heading towards the Mobile World Congress 2019. Ahead of the next big event, today we compiled the list of most anticipating smartphones of this year. Without any further delay, let's kick off with the upcoming smartphone which is in rumors from the past few months.

Samsung Galaxy S10 series

This year is quite special for the Samsung Galaxy S series as the company will be announcing the 10th-anniversary phones. Last year the Galaxy S9 lineup didn't bring something out of the box instead the company played safe by opting similar design like the predecessor. This year almost all leaks hint the Galaxy S10 series will have camera-hole display design with almost none bezels around the display.

Unlike the waterdrop notch, it won't have camera cutout in the center instead it will be on either of sides for the selfie snappers. The Galaxy S10 will be released in at least four variants including Galaxy S10, S10 Plus, S10 Lite and S10 X with 5G connectivity.

The entry-level Galaxy S10 Lite won't have curved display instead it will have a flat display panel. Under the hood, all models will have the latest Exynos 9820 SoC and Snapdragon 855 for the US variant. The Galaxy S10 and S10 Plus expected with triple rear cameras, the S10 Lite will have dual rear cameras. The S10 Plus will have dual selfie snappers.

The Galaxy S10 series will go official on February 20th in the next Unpacked event with a release from March 8th. As far as pricing is a concern the S10 Lite is rumored to cost $699, the S10 will be slightly expensive at $799 whereas the S10 Plus base model will cost $899.

Apart from these three models, we heard rumors the Galaxy S10 will be available in two more models including the best of the best Beyond X variant with triple cameras on the rear and front side. This variant is supposed to have 6.7-inches display panel. Last but not the least there will be a 5G variant which will be released a bit late from the regular models.

Huawei P30/ P30 Pro

Last year was quite an extraordinary for Huawei as the company not only achieved their target to become the second largest smartphone's manufacturer in the world but also their both flagships were much praised by customers and buyers.

The P20 Pro remained one of the best flagships in the market for the first half of the year. It is still rated as the best camera phone in the market which is replaced by the company's own Mate 20 Pro. That's why it is pretty much understanding why everyone is keen to know what Huawei is cooking as far as P30 series is a concern.

Surprisingly the rumors mill isn't producing many details regarding the upcoming P30 series. Huawei brought triple rear sensors last year with the P30 Pro, now we have rumors the P30 Pro will have quad rear cameras to be the next best camera phone in the market.

Most likely the P30 Pro will have the latest waterdrop notch. Under the hood, the Kirin 980 SoC will be powering it. Like the Mate 20 Pro, we can expect Quad HD+ panel. Huawei is also planning to introduce a foldable smartphone later in H2 2019.

Galaxy X Foldable phone

The Galaxy S10 isn't the only next big series from Samsung. The company is all set to announce their first foldable display smartphone. Samsung is working on the foldable display for quite some time and now they are all set to announce the first foldable smartphone this year.

The foldable phone from Samsung is rumored to be announced as Galaxy "F" or "X". It is expected to have a 4.5-inches display panel when folded with a screen resolution of 840 x 1960 pixels. When the Flex display is unfolded it becomes 7.3-inches screen with a resolution of 1536 x 2152 pixels. Both the folded and unfolded display pixels density will be 420 pixels-per-inch. It is expected to have the Exynos 9820 SoC like the upcoming S10 series.

As per the latest info, the company could unveil the Galaxy X at the upcoming Unpacked event on February 20th at the launch event of S10 series. The Galaxy X will be one of its kind innovative smartphones so you can expect it won't be released at a cheaper price tag. Also, we heard reports it won't be widely available instead the company will release it in limited numbers.

Apple 2019 iPhones

The current gen Apple iPhones are relatively new and just a few months older but that doesn't mean Apple fans are not eager for the next gen of iPhones. With the iPhone X, Apple jumped from the traditional thick bezels design. The experiment of notch display went successfully that's why Apple launched three phones with notch design last year.

This year once again Apple is expected to introduce three new iPhones in September as a successor model of iPhone Xs, iPhone XR, and iPhone Xs Max. Recently we had an alleged testing unit images of iPhone X1 2019 which showcase triple rear cameras aligned awkwardly at the top left corner. The third sensor is rumored to be a 3D sensor from Sony.

Currently, only the iPhone Xs and iPhone Xs Max come with OLED display whereas the XR has LCD display panel. All iPhones of this year could have OLED display panel. Apple yet to release an iPhone with Pencil support, the company could announce Apple Pencil with the Max model. As its too early, you can expect more concrete rumors will appear in coming days.

Google Pixel 3 Lite

Google upcoming phones are always in limelight ahead of the official announcement, same is the case with the Pixel 3 Lite. The device was initially rumored to be announced alongside the standard Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL but the company delayed its release due to unknown reasons.

Now the Pixel 3 Lite rumors are again gaining momentum and it seems like the Pixel 3 Lite announcement isn't far away. Thanks to a continuous streak of rumors and leaks we have a good idea regarding what to expect from the Pixel 3 Lite.

Recently an alleged hands-on video of Pixel 3 Lite appeared online which showcase the device isn't much different from the Pixel 3 in terms of looks. The Pixel 3 Lite rear is made up of plastic instead of glass, the LCD display is of 5.56-inches with Full HD+ screen resolution. The Qualcomm's Snapdragon 670 SoC is powering the phone. Most likely the Pixel 3 will also have awesome 12MP rear snapper similar like the Pixel 3. At the moment it is still in the dark when the Pixel 3 Lite will be announced, Google could unveil it at the MWC event.

Nokia 9 Pureview

The Nokia 9 Pureview is in rumors since last year. The company didn't unveil any solid premium flagship last year. The Nokia 9 Pureview was expected in December 2018, however, the company is now expected to announce the device in the next few weeks.

The special aspect of the device is its Penta cameras setup on the rear. Almost all leaks indicate the Nokia 9 PureView will have five cameras on the rear side. If the leaks are accurate it will be one of its kind phones with five rear cameras.

Unfortunately HMD global is yet not ready to bring true bezel-less smartphones that's why the Nokia 9 PureView has prominent bezels on the front-facing side. It is rumored to have a 5.9-inches OLED display panel with Quad HD+ screen resolution. It may not have the latest Snapdragon 855 chipset instead the company will rely on the last year's Snapdragon 845 SoC.

Once again the Nokia 9 Pureview isn't a hardware-centric phone instead it will lure those who are looking for a solid camera flagship phone.

OnePlus 7

The latest OnePlus 6T was announced in last quarter of 2018 but that won't stop rumors mill from producing new details regarding the upcoming OnePlus 7. Although its too early but the rumors are hinting regarding few key details of the upcoming flagships killer.

So far from the look of the things, the next big thing in the design department will be in-display camera hole. The OnePlus 7 likely will follow this trend as reported by Ishan Agarwal. It will be running on the Qualcomm's Snapdragon 855 chipset, once again the display resolution will be Full HD+ to make it a budget-friendly option. The OnePlus 7 will be released sometime later in summer like its predecessor.

Another worth noting aspect is OnePlus recently stated the company will be amongst the first to announce 5G smartphone and also stated the device won't be 6T's successor. So we can expect a 5G phone from OnePlus this year but it won't be budget friendly like the regular model.

Motorola G7 series

The Moto G series is known for providing solid value for the money in the mid-range segment. That's why Moto G-series is ruling the mid-range category from years, we can expect same from the upcoming G7 series.

Recently the G7 series alleged renders appear online which reveals the company is working on four variants of the G7 lineup including G7, G7 Plus, G7 Plus, and G7 Power. The G7 and G7 Plus will have waterdrop notch whereas the G7 Power and the Play variant will have traditional wider notches. Most likely the standard G7 and the G7 Plus will have dual cameras setup on the rear whereas the other models will have single rear snapper. The Power variant is expected to have a 5,000mAh battery cell.

Motorola yet to officially confirmed the launch date of G7 series but as per the latest report from TudoCelular, the company will launch G7 series phone in Brazil ahead of the MWC 2019.

Sony Xperia XZ4

Last year Sony adopted a different strategy of rolling number of Xperia XZ lineup flagships. The company unveiled XZ3 ahead of the IFA 2018, the XZ2 Premium was announced in April as a surprise when no one was expecting a new flagship from Sony. Last but not the least the XZ2 was launched at the MWC 2018. This year all eyes are on the XZ3 successor which is expected to be announced as XZ4 at the MWC event.

Following the latest trend, the company is also reducing the bezels, as per the latest CAD renders the XZ4's display aspect ratio will be 21:9. The fingerprint scanner will be shifted to the right edge once again like earlier Sony flagships. Under the hood, the Snapdragon 855 will be powering the phone. On the rear side, you can expect dual rear cameras to compete against the latest camera-centric flagships.

LG G8

The South Korean giant LG's flagship G-lineup phones are not as successful as the premium flagships from Samsung and Huawei that's why the company smartphone business is tumbling from last few years. LG is one of the few companies who is testing new design from last few years as far as the flagships are a concern. The G5 was the company's modular flagship phone, the very next year LG introduced G6 with glass and metal sandwich design by ditching the modular approach.

So far rumors are indicating LG is working on a new design approach so that the G8 can stand out amongst the crowd. As per the recent report, the G8 will be featuring Sound-emitting display, waterdrop notch, and 3D facial recognition. It won't support 5G, so we can expect the company could release a 5G variant later this year. The LG G8 is expected to go official at the MWC 2019.

In the end, we would like to hear our readers thoughts regarding the most anticipated smartphones of 2019. Feel free to share your thoughts with fellow readers in the comments section below. Stay tuned.
