01 February 2019 5

Back in 2013, Motorola launched new a mid-range G lineup phone series. Since then the company launched new phones under G-series every year and with each passing year the company strengthens their position in the mid-range segment. Undoubtedly the Motorola G-series phones are currently considered as the best in the budget-friendly category.

The first G-lineup phone comes with the plastic body, later on, the company adopted metal cases for the rear. Last year the company jumped to a more premium aluminum chassis with glass rear. Despite the upgrade in the design and hardware, the G-lineup is still a pretty great option for those who are looking for a new phone around $200. Last year Motorola released three variant of G6 series including standard G6, G6 Plus with better hardware and a budget-friendly option G6 Play.

All three phones were quite successful in their respective niches, the G6 series is almost one year old and now everyone is keen to know what Motorola is cooking inside as far as Moto G7 series is a concern. Almost all leaks and rumors hints there will be four variant of G7 lineup including G7, G7 Plus, G7 Play, and G7 Power. Thanks to a continuous streak of rumors and leaks we have a pretty good idea regarding all upcoming variants of G7 series. Today we will compile all the details we know so far regarding the Moto G7 series.

Release date and price

Motorola recently rolled out invites for an event on February 7th in Brazil, the Moto G7 series likely to go official at the event. Last year Moto G6 lineup was announced in April with a release in May. This year Motorola is going to announce new G7 series phones a few months earlier than expected.

As far as the pricing is a concern the standard Moto G7 is expected to cost 300 Euros ($342). The Plus model will be expensive amongst all at 360 Euros ($411). The Moto G7 Power rumored to be available at 209 Euros ($238). The cheapest G7 lineup phone will be G7 Play at 149 Euros ($170). It is important to mention that the aforementioned prices are for the European region, we can expect slightly different pricing for different regions and also available in all regions isn't confirmed yet.

The Moto G7 Plus hands-on images appeared an online couple of times. It is almost confirmed the G7 and G7 Plus will have dewdrop notch design. Despite having thin waterdrop notch at the top, the device has prominent bezels at the edges and bottom. The bottom bezel is quite prominent, it has Motorola branding on it. The chassis is made up of metal with glass covering the rear side. Both the G7 and G7 Plus has dual cameras on the rear enclosed in a Motorola's signature circle with LED flashlight.

The fingerprint scanner is on the rear embedded in the Motorola batwing M logo. Almost all leaks hints Motorola is shifting towards waterdrop design as far as G7 and G7 Plus are a concern. The Moto G7 rumored dimensions are 157 x 75.3 x 7.92mm and weigh 172g. Despite being almost similar the G7 Plus will be slightly thicker at 157 x 75.3 x 8.27mm and weighs 174g. Both the phones will have a traditional 3.5mm headphone jack and USB-C slot. Once again the G7 lineup will come with splash resistance capabilities.

The Moto G7 Power appeared at the FCC certification which reveals the device will have traditional notch design instead of dewdrop notch. Like its predecessor, the G7 Play will have a single camera on the rear enclosed in the circle. Like the other variants of G7 series, it has a fingerprint scanner on the rear embedded in the M logo. The device dimensions will be 159.4 x 76 x 9.3mm and weigh 193g. It has USB-C port for connectivity and 3.5mm headphone jack.

Like the G7 Power, the G7 Play also passed FCC certification. The device also has traditional notch design with single snapper on the rear. The power and volume controllers on both G7 Power and Play are on the right edge whereas the SIM and MicroSD slot tray are on the left edge.

As far as the display is a concern the G7 reportedly has 6.24-inches display with Full HD+ screen resolution of 1080 x 2270 pixels. Its an IPS LCD with an aspect ratio of 19.5:9. The display screen-to-body ratio will be 85% which is certainly an improvement over the predecessor. The display panel on the G7 Plus will also be similar like the standard G7.

The Moto G7 Power will have a slightly smaller display of 6.2-inches with HD+ screen resolution of 720 x 1520 pixels. The Moto G7 Play will be smallest amongst all with a 5.7-inches display panel and HD+ screen resolution of 720 x 1520 pixels.

As per so far leaks the Moto G7 will be running on the Qualcomm's Octa-core Snapdragon 632 chipset with 4GB RAM. The built-in native storage will be 64GB which can be further expanded up to 256GB using MicroSD. Being the Plus model the G7 Plus will have slightly better hardware, the Qualcomm's Octa-core Snapdragon 636 SoC will be powering the phone with 4GB RAM and 64GB storage.

Both the Moto G7 and G7 Plus lights will be kept on by a 3,000mAh battery cell. As OS both the phones will be pre-installed with Android Pie straight out of the box. The Motorola's custom UI skin over the Android OS will be quite thin, this is certainly a treat for those who want the near-stock version of OS. As per latest leak, the G7 ThinQ will feature 27W Turbocharge fast charging to quickly recharge the battery in less than 100 minutes.

The Moto G7 Power is rumored to have the Snapdragon 632 chipset with 3GB RAM and built-in native storage will be 32GB. The Adreno 506 will be taking care of graphics. Being the battery-centric option the G7 Play will have a gigantic battery cell of 5,000mAH.

Surprisingly the leaks hint the G7 Play will also have the Snapdragon 600 series chipset. So far we have two kinds of rumors, the first one suggests the G7 Play will be running on the Snapdragon 625 SoC whereas the second kind of rumors suggest it will be powered up by the Snapdragon 632 like the Power variant. However, both kinds of rumors agree on 2GB RAM and 32GB native storage. The G7 Play is expected to have 2,820mAh. All the models will support memory expansion via MicroSD.

All the Moto G7 models will be pre-installed with Android pie straight out of the box.

The G7 series not having dual rear cameras is a dampener to me. Had taken it for granted that with the trend all phones might be having 2 rear snappers.

Rumors talked a lot about the G7 series phones will show up earlier than expected.Wasn't sure about that until I read here. This story underlines the rumors for me now.
