LG confirms G8 ThinQ will bring 3D-sensing selfie camera

07 February 2019 2

It's not a mystery that South Korean giant LG is getting ready to announce a new flagship phone at the MWC 2019. Apart from the regular flagship model, the company will also bring a 5G phone. The 5G phone will have a dedicated cooling system to ensure it remains cool even on heavy usage.

Recently the company released the first teaser video to create hype with a tagline "Goodbye Touch".Today the company officially confirmed the next flagship will be dubbed as G8 ThinQ. Not just that the company also releases a teaser image to confirm it will have ToF selfie snapper. The G8 ThinQ selfie snapper is jointly produced with Infineon Tech. LG will be utilizing the REAL3 image sensor for the G8 ThinQ.

The G8 ThinQ will be the company's first phone which can utilize infrared light to scan the user. It will work quite similarly to Apple's Face ID. The new sensor clearly hints LG may only rely on 3D facial recognition instead of a regular fingerprint scanner. It will be interesting to see how LG fans react to 3D scanner as a primary biometric feature when companies are slowly moving towards under-glass optical fingerprint scanner.

The good thing is LG fans don't have to wait longer as the official announcement of G8 is just a couple of weeks away. Stay tuned we will keep you updated.
