Largest social media platform Facebook continues its efforts to dive further into AI. Previously Facebook’s very own AI created its own language which forced the company to shut down that project. While AI could be a major threat to humans in times to come, it also offers a great deal of utility in the present times. Facebook has recently acquired an AI startup named GrokStyle Inc which could possibly help Facebook in visual shopping and more.
GrokStyle has earlier incorporated its technology into Ikea’s mobile app which basically allows a user to take a picture of a certain product, which then lets the app suggest similar products to be purchased online. While GrokStyle didn’t announce its acquisition, we went to find out through Facebook where its spokesperson Vanessa Chan shared in a statement,
“We are excited to welcome GrokStyle to Facebook," Facebook spokeswoman Vanessa Chan said in a statement. "Their team and technology will contribute to our AI capabilities.”

Upon asking, she declined to share the purchase price though. The startup’s technology could help Facebook’s very own marketplace (not available everywhere in the world yet) where it could help suggested users similar products from other companies on Facebook.
Facebook previously bought Chainspace which is a blockchain technology company which makes it a second acquisition this year. What use cases do you see for such a technology helping in Facebook’s ecosystem? Share your views in the comment section below.
