Nintendo is said to launch two new models of its Switch gaming console. Out of these two modes, the first variant is said to be for hardcore gamers and the other one is said to be a stripped-down variant which may be available at a slightly lower price point.
While not much is known about these consoles, LetsGoDigital, a Dutch technology blog has imagined how the compact an low priced, Nintendo Switch Lite may look like.
The first-generation Switch though was liked by everyone, however, after the emergence of bezel-less display in smartphones, it made sense to have such a display present in Switch. This render released by LetsGoDigital suggests that the ‘Nintendo Switch Lite’ may come with this much-anticipated update and may feature a near bezel-less display.
As per speculations by leading publications like Nikkei, a Japanese financial newspaper, the ‘Switch Lite’ may miss several important features from the main console. It quotes Ace Research Institute Hideki Yasuda which states that Nintendo may repeat its 2006 act where it launched the DS Lite console with a single display, unlike the dual screen console Game Boy Advanced.
The Wall Street Journal also mentions that the budget and compact Switch Lite may not have detachable Joy-Cons and may not even support vibration. While LetsGoDigital also assumes that the company may cut costs by removing a few other key features and may not even have a facility to dock the console to play games on TV.
Barring these, there is no other major piece of information available as of now. While a budget Nintendo Switch looks like an exciting prospect, Nintendo may sell wireless Joy-Cons and TV dock separately, as these are the two USPs of Nintendo Switch and are the reason behind its success.
It is speculated that at least one of the consoles may be released out as early as E3 2019 in Las Vegas. Till then, like us, please stay tuned.
