Upcoming Snapdragon 845 chipset to be equipped with X20 modem chip

12 June 2017 3

A couple of months ago, we already heard rumors quoting that Samsung has teamed up with Qualcomm for the mass production of the upcoming Snapdragon 845 processor which was slated to be made from a 7nm process. Earlier last month, it was rumored that Qualcomm has already developed their flagship chipset with another leak suggesting that the same would be made through a 10nm FINFET process.

It’s now discovered that Qualcomm is working on equipping the upcoming flagship chipset with an X20 modem that would be able to achieve download speeds as fast as 1.2Gbps. The modem if made a reality would support LTE Cat. 18 and would be built using a 2x20MHz carrier aggregation, which could make it possible to get as much as 150Mbps upload speed.

Designed with 5G in mind, the X20 modem would be made available sooner to manufacturers and could be commercialized by the start of next year along with a range of handsets that are powered by Snapdragon 845.

There's hardly any doubt about this. The SD845 will be a premium chip and so will mostly have the advanced features that other current chips don't have still.
