At the ongoing CES 2021, Sony has offered an early look at its first-ever drone product named AirPeak. It first revealed its plans to enter the drone market late last year. Many were speculating it to be a DJI-rival but as things look now, it is not. The drone is primarily meant to utilize Sony's camera hardware for delivering quality photos and video footage.
Sony played a short video showing the AirPeak drone featuring one of its Alpha series mirrorless cameras. It is said to be the smallest drone in the world to carry an Alpha camera. The company is choosing to be silent about the technical specifications, features, and pricing. This is likely to be because the team is still working on the drone and it is not yet ready for prime time.
In the video clip, Sony has shown how the AirPeak drone was used to shoot the aerial video of its VISION-S concept car's road test. The footage does look high-equality and enough stability that you would expect from a drone. One can also see scenes of snow and forest offering a scenic view.
Sony's take on drones through AirPeak currently appears to be focused on professional videographers. It is likely to cost a lot which is something an average consumer would not be okay paying. We can expect to see budget-friendly models from the company in the future but we will have to wait and see.
