Apple unveils new thinner iPad Pro models with FaceID

Apple has launched two new iPad Pro models with 11-inch and 12.9-inch display's in a smaller thinner body. The new iPad Pro's come with FaceID which works in both portrait and landscape modes. They have thin bezels and hard edges. The 11-inch model has the same proportions as the 10.5-inch model, while the 12.9-inch model is in a much smaller form factor. Apple calls the new display, as the new Liquid Retina Display.

The new iPad Pro models have FaceID and the TrueDepth camera setup. The new iPad Pro’s Face ID components are housed in the top, flat bezel. The new devices have USB-C replacing the lightning connector which even lets it charge an iPhone. Under the hood, the iPad Pros have the A12X Bionic chip. It has up to 1 TB of storage, and the TrueDepth Camera on iPad Pro models will enable Animoji and Memoji.

At the event Apple states, “Today we’re announcing an all-new iPad Pro, and it’s going to push what you can do on [an] iPad or on any computer even further.”

Tim Cooks stated at the event that the new iPads are, “A magical piece of glass that transforms instantly to whatever you want it to be. But you might not know that we’ve sold more iPads in the last year than the entire notebook line-up of all of the biggest notebook manufacturers,” he adds. “This makes iPad the most popular computer in the world”.

“These iPad Pros are faster than 92% of all portable PCs sold in the last 12 months,” John says

The new iPad Pros modes come with four speakers which deliver wider stereo sound. They are equipped with a 12 MP camera with 4K/60 video recording. It offers gigabit LTE on cellular models. The devices will ship with an 18-watt charger in the box, which will deliver up to 10 hours of continuous use on a single charge. With the new camera, speakers, and A12X Bionic chip, the new iPad models will offer a new AR experience. The company revealed Adobe’s Project Aero (coming in 2019) which will enable developers to design new AR experiences on iPad.

Apple’s redesigned Apple Pencil will immediately wake the device with a tap and launch Notes. Other touch gestures which allow users to switch between tools in productivity apps and perform other actions. The new iPad Pro comes with a new Apple Pencil, which connects to the side of the device with a magnet. It charges wirelessly from the iPad Pro and automatically pairs with it. By tapping Apple Pencil twice on the side, you can change the mode. The Cupertino giant has updated the old Smart Keyboard, which will now be called the Smart Keyboard Folio, which will allow the iPad to sit at two different typing angles.

Apple states, "With over a million apps designed to take advantage of the large Multi-Touch display, including next-generation apps like Photoshop CC on iPad (coming 2019), the new iPad Pro will push what users can do on a computer further than ever before".

“The new iPad Pro is a huge step forward for powerful, creative, mobile computing; it has an all-new thinner design, speeds through projects with the super-fast A12X Bionic chip and unlocks with a glance using Face ID in any orientation — while you’re sitting or standing, with iPad Pro on your desk or lap, with the new Smart Keyboard Folio and new Apple Pencil,” said Philip Schiller, Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Marketing. “There has never been a mobile device anything like the new iPad Pro; it has a gorgeous edge-to-edge Liquid Retina display that curves into the corners, breakthrough performance that outperforms most laptops, Face ID, support for the new Smart Keyboard Folio and new Apple Pencil, advanced new cameras and sensors for the best AR experiences ever in any device, a high-speed USB-C connector, louder speakers, faster wireless and more, all packed into a thinner device that has all-day battery life and is 25 percent smaller in volume.”

Apple iPad Pro 11-inch price starts at $799, and 12.9-inch model is priced starting at $999. The devices are up for pre-order and will ship from Nov 7, 2018.
