Mobile World Congress, the world’s largest exhibition for the mobile industry may not see some of the top brands exhibiting their innovations and products. This is due to the pandemic disease Coronavirus which has become a big hurdle in many ways. Several companies, including LG and NVIDIA, have announced their withdrawal, and now, Amazon, Ericsson, and reportedly Samsung as well are new names to add to the list.
Ericsson has officially announced that for the company, health and safety of employees come first and due to the outbreak of the novel Coronavirus, it is staying away from the GSMA MWC Barcelona 2020. The company has made it official that the demos and content created for MWC Barcelona will rather be showcased at a special event, called “Ericsson Unboxed.”
Amazon has also reportedly canceled its plans for Mobile World Congress. In a statement emailed to Techcrunch, an Amazon spokesperson has reportedly said,
Due to the outbreak and continued concerns about novel coronavirus, Amazon will withdraw from exhibiting and participating in Mobile World Congress 2020, scheduled for Feb. 24-27 in Barcelona, Spain.
Also, Samsung is reportedly not attending the event. CNET cites people familiar with the matter and reports that various Samsung executives from its Korean and US offices have canceled or planned to cancel their trips to Barcelona, Spain, where the trade show is set to happen. As per the report, at least three companies have pulled out of MWC 2020 and numerous others have said they’d alter their plans.
