Google has launched an initiative called the “Works with Chromebook” to make it easier for consumers to look for the right accessories easier and faster. Under this initiative, the Chromebooks compatible accessories will come with the “Works with Chromebook” badge that could help the consumers easily find out the best product for their Chromebooks that would work just best.
Google says it has tested the accessories to ensure they comply with Chromebook’s compatibility standards. Once the users see the badge, it is easier to differentiate and learn which product works seamlessly with Chromebook.
Kevin Ngo, Program Manager lists 13 companies that have partnered with the “Works with Chromebook” initiative. These are - AbleNet, Anker, Belkin, Brydge, Cable Matters, Elecom, Hyper, Kensington, Logitech, Plugable, Satechi, StarTech, and Targus. Interestingly, retailers such as Walmart, Best Buy, and Amazon will also sell certified accessories.
9to5Google notes that the “Works with Chromebooks” initiative will be more beneficial for the keyboards. One it is the basic peripheral accessory and two, the Chrome OS uses specific keyboard layouts that include additional functionality such as Google Assistant and dedicated search button. Also, with the help of these specific badges, you can count on the basic connections you make with either some kind of cable or chargers.
