Sony PlayStation 4 is the fastest console to hit 100 million mark

30 July 2019 0

Sony has announced that it has now sold over 100 million PlayStation 4 units. It achieved the milestone after selling 3.2 million units in the past quarter which brought overall sales figures to an exact 100 million. This also makes it the fastest home console to reach the milestone as it dethroned PlayStation 2 to come on the top.

The stat about being the fastest to 100-million mark was shared by Daniel Ahmed, a Niko Partners' Senior Analyst. He tweeted that the PlayStation 4 reached the figure within 5 years and 7 months of its launch. In comparison, PlayStation 2 took two months more and Nintendo's Wii took about 6 years and 8 months.

The announcement also means that it took less than three years for PlayStation 4 to reach from 50 million to 100 million. And for trivia lovers out there, this makes PlayStation 3 to be the only Sony gaming console to not reach the 100-million mark. The unlucky console managed to sell only 87 million units worldwide.

It is worth noting that despite just entering the covered club, PlayStation 4 is now closer than ever to its end. Sony has already confirmed working on next-gen PlayStation likely to be called PlayStation 5. It has also revealed a few of its features like 8K gaming support, support for SSDs, ray tracing, and 3D audio. It is claimed to have significantly faster loading times than the PlayStation 4 Pro. But if we talk about the most important things which are availability and pricing, Sony is still keeping mum about it.
