07 May 2019 3

Google has finally launched the Pixel 3a and Pixel 3a XL smartphones at its Google I/O 2019 event. These are the mid-tier smartphones but include top-tier camera features, including the much appreciated Night Sight so as to give you the power of taking bright pictures even at night or in dark. They both have 12.2MP single rear camera along with Google’s AI photography things, including HDR+ and portraits. They have only one camera on the front as well which includes 8MP sensor and have no Pixel Visual Core.

The devices include Pixel phones photography skills but don’t include high-end specifications. They have slightly lower-resolution displays, plastic build and they are powered by Snapdragon 670 processor instead of the Snapdragon 845 from the flagships. Both smartphones will be offered only in 4GB RAM/ 64GB storage variants. While the Pixel 3a houses a 3,000mAh battery, the Pixel 3a XL has a 3,700mAh battery capacity.

They both have OLED displays, with the Pixel 3a packs a 5.6-inch display with 2220x1080 pixels resolution, and the Pixel 3a XL has a 6-inch display with 1080x2160 pixels resolution. They both have headphone jacks and the phones will also receive a preview of AR in Google Maps along with the entire Pixel portfolio.

Pricing and availability

The price for the Pixel 3a starts at $399 and the Pixel 3a XL is tagged at $479. They both are available in three colors – Just Black, Clearly White, and Purple-ish color options. The Indian pricing is set at Rs. 39,999, while the Google Pixel 3a XL price in India will be Rs. 44,999.

The phones are protected against new threats, thanks to three years of security and operating system updates. The phone also comes with the custom-built Titan M chip to help protect your most sensitive data.

In the US, Pixel 3a and Pixel 3a XL are now available through more carriers, including Verizon, T-Mobile, Sprint, US Cellular, Spectrum Mobile (Charter), C Spire and Google Fi, as well as being supported on AT&T.

In India, the Pixel 3a and Pixel 3a XL will be released on May 15, as they are going up for registrations from 12:30pm IST on Wednesday, May 8 via Flipkart.
