Google rolling out dark mode in Google Drive

22 May 2019 5

Google has been working upon a dark mode for a bunch of its apps recently, which not only offers better battery timings and is easier on the eyes. The dark mode was previously rolled out for Google Chrome Canary which also applied to the website content and not only to the Chrome app UI. Now in the latest development, the tech giant is rolling out dark mode for Google Drive which has to begin to show up for some of the users globally.

About two years back, Google pushed ‘whiteish’ theme to its app offering a much cleaner UI though lately, the company has been doing the complete opposite in the shape of dark mode. Dark mode UI has been implemented by a bunch of apps out there which offer a soothing experience to the sensitive eyes as well as performs better on the AMOLED displays in terms of extending the battery life.

Google Drive for some users now offers this dark mode experience with no bugs apparently showing up especially when it comes to readability similar to what we experienced with the dark mode in Google Photos. This is a server-side upgrade so once Google decides to roll out to you, you would automatically get the option if you’re running the latest version i.e. v2.19.132.06.
