YouTube Music to come pre-installed as official music app on Android 9 & above devices

30 September 2019 0

Google has officially announced that YouTube Music will come pre-installed on all the new Android smartphones that will ship with Android 10 and Android 9 Pie. This implies YouTube Music is now Android’s official music app.

The announcement doesn’t mention that Play Music will demise anytime soon but this major step is a piece of evidence to the near possibility. The days might be numbered for the Play Music app and this isn’t the first time we are deeming its decease. In April, Google shut down the app’s Artist Hub which had allowed the artists to uploaded their music for streaming on Google Play Music. Google said that YouTube Music is the reason behind this closure.

It was already known that the Play Music app may not stay longer with us. During the shut down of the Artist Hub feature, Google reportedly said in the email sent to artists,

With the launch of YouTube Music last year, we eventually plan to replace Google Play Music with YouTube Music.” It added, “we encourage you to become a YouTube Artist if you aren’t already,”

Well you need not worry, at least, for now, if you’re fond of the Google Play Music app as Google is still offering the app on its Play Store to download. But, from now on the default app is YouTube Music for all the new phones coming with the very latest and Android 9 platform.

Until now, YouTube Music has required a separate download from Google Play, but not anymore.
