Google Pixel 4 Dual Exposure Controls and Live HDR+ features not coming to Pixel phones

22 October 2019 0

Some of the cool Pixel 4 features that are coming to the older Pixel devices are Live Caption, Astrophotography mode, but some other modern features will stay exclusive to the Pixel 4 lineup only. These are Dual Exposure Control and Live HDR+.

Upon asked by a Twitter user if the Live HDR+ feature is coming to older Pixel devices as well, Google clarified that these two features require low-level capabilities in the hardware that is only available on the Pixel 4. Hence, there will not be any availability on older Pixel phones.

The Dual Exposure control lets you adjust the highlights and shadows right from your viewfinder. And the Live HDR offers a live preview of what your photo will look like if Google’s HDR processing is enabled. It is like WYSIWYG (What You See Is What You Get) real-time HDR+ viewfinder which means you will get to see the results of HDR before you even take the shot.

With the low-level hardware capabilities, Google must be referring to Pixel 4’s new Pixel Neural Core co-processor.

While it is disappointing that Google isn’t bringing these features to the Pixel 3, it is great at the same time to see some interesting features making their ways to older phones.

Google has just answered a curious question on Twitter and it would be even better if Google comes up with any official announcement as well. But what it wanted to convey has already been conveyed.
