Google Stadia app available on Play Store | UPD: iOS app as well

13 November 2019 0

UPDATE (November 13th, 2019):

Google Stadia app is now available for iOS devices as well but with a slight twist. The app cannot be used for playing Stadia games on one's iPhone. It currently supports only accessing and managing one's Stadia account. This is likely because of playing these games on smartphones is limited to Pixel phones for the time being. Google has plans to expand the support to other phones but we do not know if it will include iPhones and iPads or not.

Google Stadia game streaming service is exactly one week away from the launch and you can now download and install the official companion app. It is the app that will allow users to access and manage their Stadia accounts, games, and controllers. It can also be used for purchasing new games directly from your smartphone.

Once the app is installed and launched, it welcomes the users with a prominent Destiny 2 promo. It makes sense it is a free game bundled with Stadia Founder's and Premiere Edition. You will be asked to sign-in using a Google account which will be the one you used to purchase your Stadia membership. It should be noted that once you have linked a particular Google account, it can't be changed later.

The next step is to enter the Stadia invite code without which you will not be able to use the app any further. Google will start sending these unique codes to users in time for the launch. While the app is pretty much unusable at the moment, app store listing screenshots offer a glimpse of what it would be like. There are three main tabs: Store, Home, and Explore.

  • Store: It is the tab to visit the Stadia store for browsing game listings and buying the ones you like.
  • Home: It seems like the standard home tab for you to see your account details and feed.
  • Explore: This tab is shown to be featuring community posts along with links to other platforms like YouTube, Reddit, Discord, Twitter, and Facebook.

The Stadia app can be installed only on devices compatible with the service. These include the Pixel 2 series, Pixel 3 series, Pixel 3a series, and the most recently launched Pixel 4 series. Moreover, the app listing is visible through the Play Store application in only 14 Stadia launch countries. If Stadia is not available in your country yet, the app will not work as well.
