Google Pixel 4 comes with so many great features, some that the company cared to announce at the stage and a few that it didn’t even bother to address. Well, the latter ones came to existence when the device went officially available and pronounced when they received a mention.
Observed and shared by folks over at the XDA Developers, the Pixel 4 brings along improved Google Lens suggestions in the Google Camera app. Since its launch, the Google Lens has received some important updates that bring some new features but with the Google Pixel 4, the tool has just been improved so well.
It is said to be the Google Camera v7.2 that unlocks these great features in the Pixel 4 devices. The Google Camera 7.2 update will pop up with suggestions to scan documents, copy text, and even translate foreign languages. A small pop-up automatically appears when the camera recognizes these specific things.
When you hover your phone over something that looks like a document, you will see a “scan document text.” Tapping on it opens Google Lens with the corners automatically set to crop the document, just like some third-party document scanning apps. After cropping the document you can choose to share it as a PDF or image.
XDA notes that the translation feature only appears to be working in English, Spanish, German, Hindi, and Japanese at present. 9to5Google confirms these new features are tied with the latest Google Camera 7.2 update on the Pixel 3 XL and Pixel 4 XL devices. It is, however, unclear if these additions rely on the Pixel Visual Core specifically or if we’ll see the functionality coming to older Pixel phones as well.
