Google has updated Search functionality in India with the ability to search, browse, and search mobile prepaid recharge plans. This new functionality is limited to Indian Android users and that too prepaid mobile ones. The good thing is that this will work within the Google Search and will be shown among search results.
The process for using Google Search for mobile recharges starts by using a simple search query like "recharge", "prepaid mobile recharge", and "sim recharge". Among search results, Google will show a section where a user will need to enter the mobile number, operator name, and circle name. It will then show all available recharge plans related to details entered by the user.
Airtel, Vodafone-Idea, Reliance Jio, and BSNL are the telecom operators supported by Google. As for showing recharge plans, it has teamed up with Paytm, Freecharge, and Mobikwik which can also be used for comparing recharge plans. Once the user has selected his preferred recharge plan, he can choose whether to make payment using the service provider's app or website. Since it is a Google functionality, even Google Pay is supported.
In the official post, Google said:
"In India, there are approximately 1.1 billion cellular connections, about 95 percent of which are prepaid SIM cards. Prepaid cellular subscribers use a variety of ways to recharge their mobile phone, or even get help from a friend or a family member. Today, we make it easier for people in India to recharge prepaid SIMs with a new Google Search experience."
