Google releases June Security patch in factory images for Nexus/Pixel devices

06 June 2017 4

A month after releasing its May batch of security updates, Google has now started seeding the Android Security Update for June 2017 while pushing it through factory images for its Pixel and Nexus devices. The Pixel, Pixel XL, Pixel C, Nexus 6P, Nexus Player and Nexus 5X would still be kept at Android 7.1.2 while Nexus 9 and Nexus 6 devices get the same batch of security patches in Android version 7.1.1.

If your device matches any on the list mentioned above, you could grab a factory image or OTA file to get updated to the latest version of Android Security patches. The files might even vary across different carriers for the same device.

Users who don’t wish to risk bricking their device can wait till Google starts seeding over the air updates for the supported devices, though manually updating your phone isn’t that risky a process. Google’s OTA images are made to do just update your device without affecting anything in the system and can thus be easily sideloaded.

This security update also contains a fix for freezing issues that many Pixel owners were experiencing:

There is a fix included in the June security update that should address many of the freezing issues that have been reported. The update is starting to roll out via OTA today and will continue to roll out over the coming weeks. Freezing and general device performance issues can be caused my many different things, so please continue to update this post with your individual experiences after accepting the June security OTA.
