MediaTek has launched Dimensity 1000+ processor with some significant upgrades over the Dimensity 1000 that it launched last year in November. The most notable one is the 144Hz display support, compared to the 120Hz at FHD+ and 90Hz at QHD+ support that Dimensity 1000 provides.
The new Dimensity 1000+ also touts UltraSave technology for more power-efficient 5G connectivity. MediaTek has not explicitly mentioned it but presumably, the Dimensity 1000 Plus also using the same octa-core CPU, where there are 4 Cortex-A77 and 4 Cortex-A55 cores with Mali-G77 MP9 GPU. MediaTek, however, also highlighting other technologies like AI-powered picture quality adjustments, 5G+5G dual SIM, and SDR to HDR conversion.
MediaTek announced devices powered by Dimensity 1000+ will be available in the market soon. iQOO has already announced that it will bring the world's first smartphone powered by Dimensity 1000 Plus in the market. We may learn more about the chipset as the first devices employing the new processor starts coming.
It appears that MediaTek is following Qualcomm approach by launching a Plus variant, a slightly upgraded chipset. However, unlike the last year, Qualcomm may not launch the upgraded chipset of its current flagship processor. But, compared to Qualcomm’s strategy, MediaTek has made a couple of additions as well. Qualcomm’s upgraded Snapdragon processor for phones came with only overclocked CPU and GPU speeds, while Dimensity 1000 Plus offers a higher refresh rate on displays, a setting best for gaming phones.
Although this is not the first time that MediaTek has launched a variation to its Dimensity 1000 chipset. It quietly launched the Dimensity 1000L processor earlier this year.
