Snapdragon 875 SoC may support 100W charging speeds; Xiaomi could bring first phone

29 June 2020 0

We may see more and more flagship phones carrying the faster-charging tech by next year as the upcoming flagship processor from Qualcomm is said to support the crazy 100W charging tech. According to Digital Chat Station’s latest tweet, Snapdragon 875 processor will support 100W charging speeds and it will arrive in the first quarter of 2021. So if the cited information is true, we may see many flagship phones with the new charging support.

According to the tipster, three of the four domestic game phone manufacturers are currently testing the 100W fast charging. The tipster did not reveal the names of the brands that will make use of this tech in their next year’s flagship phones but we assume them to be Xiaomi, Honor, Nubia, or maybe Vivo as well.

Note that Xiaomi and Vivo have already demonstrated the ultra-fast charging speeds before, where Xiaomi boasted about its 100W fast-charging tech, Vivo showed off its 120W charging capability. So, at least, two names appear to be confirmed here.

Also, there is one more tip from the same tipster that makes the name of one manufacturer more apparent. On Weibo, the same tipster claimed that Xiaomi could become the first manufacturer in bringing the 100W super fast-charging tech. The name of the handset is unknown but last year, during the demo, Xiaomi claimed that its tech can fully charge a phone with a 4,000mAh battery in just 17 minutes.

If a flagship phone in 2021 utilizes this fast charging support given by Snapdragon 875 processor then it would increase its overall cost. The Snapdragon 875 processor is also expected to integrate the Snapdragon X60 modem and the overall pricing can further shoot up.
