Samsung has launched the ISOCELL Vizion 33D sensor, a new ToF sensor with enhanced depth-sensing capabilities for “next-level 3D applications.” Samsung touts the new ToF sensor has been optimized to offer better photography and AR/VR experiences.
According to Samsung, the new ISOCELL Vizion 33D ToF sensor is capable of accurately detecting the depth of an object up to 5 meters with high accuracy in both indoor and outdoor environments. Also, the sensor can separate objects from the background to deliver a 3D bokeh effect. The ISOCELL Vizion 33D features a 4-tap demodulation system and supports a frame rate of up to 120fps.
The sensor can reduce the crosstalk with the help of the Deep Trench Isolation technology (DTI). And, together with Backside Scattering Technology (BST), the sensor is able to generate high-precision depth images. Samsung mentions the best application of the 3D application has to be the facial authentication for secure payment services. It can also prove to be helpful for AR/VR experiences apart from just the photography.
The new Samsung ISOCELL Vizion 33D can assist the main camera to offer better accuracy in autofocus, thus producing crisp images. The new sensor consumes just 200mW while assisting in autofocus capability. And overall, the new sensor takes less than 400mW power for 3D capabilities.
