MediaTek needs no introduction when it comes to mobile phone processors. It has been into this business for a long time now and taking strategic moves to help OEMs bring affordable handsets to the market. Interestingly, some of its recent moves have helped it even to reach a position which was unattainable before. Aiming at the affordable premium segment as well as the gaming smartphone market, it launched Helio P and G-series SoCs. The growing demand and impressive approach have collectively helped it to combat the competition and become defensive from incumbent at the same time.
Price sensitive markets like India have really helped the Taiwanese semiconductor company to accelerate its SoC business even further and make new developments around some new tech innovations. This is why the company is planning to launch its 5G-powered Dimensity chipsets for the Indian market as well.
In an exclusive interview with TechRadar, Anku Jain, MediaTek India’s Managing Director confirmed that Dimensity chipsets are finally landing in India pretty soon. He also said the company is already working with its several partners and by the end of this year, we will see phones powered by Dimensity 5G chipsets coming to the Indian market. While he didn’t take the name of the OEM, it is pretty indicative that we may see Realme launching the X7 series that is powered by Dimensity 800U and Dimensity 1000 Plus in India sometime in December.
To recall, last month, Realme CEO Madhav Sheth teased the launch of the Realme X7 series, suggesting the phones are coming out of China soon. So, Jain’s statement clearly corroborates what Realme CEO had said already.
Do you want me to launch X7 & X7 Pro in India?#BuildingTheX— Madhav Faster7 (@MadhavSheth1) October 15, 2020
Furthermore, upon asking which other brands will launch Dimensity 5G SoC-powered phones in the Indian market, Jain replied the company already has many OEM partners like Xiaomi, Oppo, Realme, and Vivo. So, expect to see these brands launching Dimensity-powered 5G phones in 2021.
