MediaTek is reportedly launching a new chipset that will be based on 6nm process technology. This comes from a tip given by DigitalChatStation. The tipster reveals that this new chip will follow an architecture similar to the upcoming Exynos 1080 platform by Samsung.

The model number of this chip in the making is said to be MT689x and it will have a Mali-G77 GPU. The tipster also claimed the new chipset will reach over 600,000 points on AnTuTu.

For comparison, Samsung’s Exynos 1080 is based on 5nm instead. According to some initial details, Exynos 1080 uses ARM’s latest CPU architecture which includes Cortex-A78 and the latest Mali-G78.

The chipset from MediaTek in question appears to be coming for phones falling in mid-range. It is likely to be an update over the 7nm-based Dimensity 1000+ processor. But, this is just an assumption. The tipster also said that the price range could be around CNY 2,000 (~300) in China.

We can’t comment more as the information provided is pretty scarce. So, let’s wait for more insights to come and see what else is in store for us.
