Samsung has refreshed its lineup of monitors for the year at CES 2023. It has announced a total of four new monitors across the Odyssey, ViewFinity, and Smart Monitor series. These are Odyssey Neo G9, Odyssey OLED G9, ViewFinity S9, and Smart Monitor M8. Let's have a detailed look at each of these offerings.
Starting with the Odyssey Neo G9, Samsung is claiming it to be the world's first dual Ultra HD gaming monitor. It sports a massive 57-inch quantum min-LED 1000R curved display with 7680 x 2160 pixels aka 8K resolution and a 32:9 aspect ratio. It boasts up to 240Hz refresh rate and VESA Display HDR 1000 certification for delivering superior image quality in both the brightest and darkest settings.
It is the world's first monitor with DisplayPort 2.1 support and will be able to transfer data twice as fast as the DisplayPort 1.4 standard. The new tech further supports Display Stream Compression (DSC) to transmit information without distortion. You also get Matte Display that reduces light reflection so that you do not get distracted during gaming sessions.
As the name suggests, the Odyssey OLED G9 is a gaming monitor featuring an OLED panel. It sports a 49-inch dual Quad HD 1800R curved display with a 32:9 aspect ratio. It does not require backlighting and lights each pixel up individually which results in a 1,000,000:1 dynamic contrast ratio.
The monitor supports up to 240Hz refresh rate and 0.1ms response time. It comes with Samsung Gaming Hub which is a single place to access various game streaming services like NVIDIA GeForce Now and Xbox cloud gaming. It also has Smart Hub that features apps like YouTube, Netflix, and Amazon Prime Video.
The ViewFinity S9 is a high-end monitor aimed at creative professionals like photographers and graphic designers. It has a 27-inch display with a 5120 x 2880 pixels (5K) resolution and a 99% DCI-P3 wide color gamut. There is an in-built Color Calibration Engine for precise color and brightness adjustment.
It has a companion app called Samsung Smart Calibration that allows users to adjust white balance and Gamma and RGB color balance directly from their smartphones. There is Matte Display tech for reducing light reflection and glares for minimal distraction while working. It features USB Type-C and Thunderbolt 4 ports for fast data transfer. Other features include a 4K SlimFit camera and pre-installed video conferencing apps like Google Meet.
The Smart Monitor M8 is the newest addition to the lineup that already has Smart Monitor M7 and M5. The new model is available in 27-inch and 32-inch sizes with 4K resolution. It features a height-adjustable stand with tilt and 90-degree pivot support. There is VESA mount compatibility for helping users save precious space.
SmartThings Hub will allow users to control all sorts of smart home appliances and devices directly from the monitor. Samsung has added mouse functionality to many of the apps so that they can be used conveniently without a remote. You do get access to apps like Netflix, Prime Video, and YouTube along with Samsung Gaming Hub as is the case with this series monitors. Its native webcam now supports 2K resolution and it also has Samsung Knox Vault.
