Google brings group video calls to Duo and Meet on smart displays

26 June 2020 0

Google has announced that group video calls are coming to Duo and Meet on Assistant-powered smart displays. This means users can call multiple contacts in one video call using your Nest Hub and Nest Hub Max and even third-party devices like Lenovo’s Smart Display.

You will first need to create groups in the mobile app in order to start calls with those circles. And, just like the support present on the smartphones, the feature let you video call 32 people on Duo and a maximum of 100 on Meet. The group calling support on Meet focuses more on work meetings and other large groups. You can join meetings via typing in the meeting code or follow a calendar appointment with the help of a digital assistant Google Assistant. Just say “Hey Google, join my next meeting” in order to get started.

For sharing the invitation, you would require your phone to send the codes initiated by your smart display. If you start a new meeting from the smart display, a push notification generates and it will be sent to your phone that you can use to share with others.

Google Assistant-powered smart displays and speakers are also getting a new “speed dial” feature to let you pin preferred contacts in order to make quick and easy access for anyone with access to the smart display. The preferred contacts’ names thus appear on the main screen of the smart display for you to have easy access in case of quick calling.
