Acer also launched a new smart speaker, alongside its new Chromebook at an event. It is the new Halo Smart Speaker, a 360-degree speaker to perfectly fill your room with "high-quality audio." Acer touts the Halo Smart Speaker has a compact size but it is not as compact as the company is promoting it to be. However, the speaker stands by the company’s other selling points, including it being stylish.
The Acer Halo Smart Speaker has a kind of rectangular-ish design where all of its walls output the audio. The base of the speaker has RGB lighting to give you that party effect together with the DTS sound. Halo Smart Speaker gets Google Assistant as its digital voice assistant to support you with several things, from playing songs, listening to podcasts to knowing the latest news. Simply say, “Hey Google,” followed by a command.
Acer touts the smart speaker has two far-field omnidirectional mics that can easily distinguish between ambient noise and voice commands so as to react quickly. The top section of the smart speaker also gets the physical buttons for playback control and to summon Google Assistant directly.
Acer says the Halo Smart Speaker has an optional LED display that can show things like weather, time, just 'Hi,' or a customized message as well. According to Acer, there is also an associated app that is currently under development, and going by the footnotes of the announcement, it is scheduled to release in 2020. Acer didn’t talk anything about this app but we assume it will allow you to do more.
The Acer Halo Smart Speaker will be available in North America in Q1 2021 starting at $109/EUR 119. It will come to EMEA in December.
