If you are an HTC smartphone user, you must be wondering when exactly your device will receive a software update. It seems like even the company thought that it has kept the update overdue for quite long as it has now shared updated information on the status. It has tweeted to reveal that HTC U12+, U11+, and U11 will be receiving Android Pie update in Q2 2019.
HTC said that the team is working on making Android Pie compatible with its devices. It is speculating a release starting Q2 2019 but there are no specific dates set yet. If you happen to be using a carrier-locked version of these phones, your update wait can stretch longer depending on the particular carrier. This is because software updates for carrier-locked versions will be handled by respective carriers.
We wanted to share the status on the Android 9 update. HTC is currently working on ensuring the update is compatible with our phones & we anticipate a release for U11, U11+ & U12+ customers starting Q2’19. Exact timing defers to operators’ availabilities in different countries.

While this announcement means that the update can arrive as soon as next month, it also means that it can take up to June 2019 for the same to happen. Either way, it is quite disappointing from HTC considering that we are set to get Android Q developer beta any day now.
Among HTC smartphones, the HTC U11 Life (Android One variant) is the only phone to be running Android Pie. It was updated to the latest version last year. HTC's situation in the smartphone market is getting worse with each passing month. Last month, it registered its worst revenue ever suggesting that things are nowhere near to getting better.

Despite the low market share and the struggle, HTC is somehow managing to keep afloat with such releases. And this is good to see from them.
You know, it's kind of Essential phone. The market share isn't there almost, so rolling out timely updates and upgrades is one thing that they have in their hands.
