HTC Vive Cosmos PC VR is finally releasing next month for $699

12 September 2019 0

It has been nine months since HTC first announced Vive Cosmos PC VR headset at CES 2019. It kept all the important details a secret all this long and now, we finally have technical details along with availability and pricing info. The HTC Vive Cosmos is now confirmed to go on sale starting next month for a price tag of $699.

The HTC Vive Cosmos is a PC-based VR headset which means it will be relying on a PC to draw all the power and perform all the complicated processing. It has a total of six camera sensors with a wider field of view and six-degree-of-freedom support. It means the headset is capable of inside-out tracking and thus eliminating the requirement of a base station.

It comes with 90Hz LCD display panels with a combined resolution of 2880 x 1700 pixels. This is said to be 88% higher resolution than the original Vive VR headset from 2016. It also helps in reducing the screen door effect as the distance between pixels is now less because of the new LCD panels.

The VR headset features a flip-up design so that if you want to check out what is going in the real world, you can do so without having to remove the headset completely. And the moment you want to continue with your VR experience, all you need to do is to simply flip it down.

The team has further packed Vivo Cosmos with new and improved controllers for better navigation and control during a virtual experience. They also emit light when in use which is said to be helpful in tracking even when there is darkness in the room. The overall controller design is similar to the Oculus is offering.

It has a modular faceplate design so that users can be future proof and add mods for enhancing the usability of the VR headset over time. One example is the use of HTC's recently unveiled External Tracking Mod that can be added separately if a user wants to. Lastly, it will be the first HTC VR headset to come with the new Vive Reality System which replaces previously used SteamVR.

The HTC Vive Cosmos is all set to go sale from October 3rd but if you choose to preorder it by October 2, you will get a free subscription to Vivoport Infinity for 12 months.
