Huawei patent suggest rear square display, periscope lens

15 March 2019 2

Top Chinese smartphone manufacturer Huawei stood second in the most patent filings in EU. The company recently patented a notch-less display design in addition to a very interesting patent to back up its ultra-fast charging technology powered by lithium-silicon.

Now in the latest development, the company has patented a square secondary display that would reside at the back of its future smartphone (if it gets into production) and the design looks promising and helpful. How cool it would be to be able to use a secondary display at the back side of the phone to take selfies (from a better rear camera) and being able to see yourself while shooting it. That’s a genius idea for sure and would be quite helpful.

The patent also hints towards a square-shaped camera that points to a periscopic camera, which is expected to be part of the upcoming Huawei P30 Pro launching at the end of this month The rear squarish display would act more like a mirror and wouldn't offer full device experience though that’s what it’s meant for. Likewise, the patent suggests a triple camera setup as well.

Do you think a secondary display to utilize the rear cameras for selfies and videos would be empowering? Share your views in the comment section below.

  • The smaller display at the phone's rear would without a doubt give a better angle to the users while taking selfies. And obviously, that's just one of the usages of the rear display.

      • It is for their future bendable mobile phones. If you look at the folding Huawei foldable Mate X. When it's closed, you can't see a screen unless you unlatch it open. If however you have a square screen on the outside, you don't have to open the foldable phone to see the Time or your notifications.
