LG G7 ThinQ to get Android 9 Pie update in Q1 2019

31 December 2018 4

Heavily skinned UIs doesn’t do any good to Android OS fragmentation and LG is anyways not the first one to roll out latest Android updates even for its flagships. After almost 4 months of the formal announcement of Android 9 Pie, LG has announced that the stable version roll out of Android 9 Pie for LG G7 ThinQ will be available by Q1 2019.

Since LG rolls out the updates first in its home country, this announcement also pertains to South Korea and the global rollout may take a few more months. This ideally means that if you have an LG G7 ThinQ global version, you may have to wait till Q2 2019 at least for a stable official update.

While almost all manufacturers have rolled out a stable version of the latest Android OS for their flagships, LG’s only device to have received Android 9 Pie is LG G7 One, which runs on Android One rather than LG’s UX. The Android 9 Pie update for other LG flagship phones like the LG V40 ThinQ, LG V30 or LG G6 is yet to be announced.

By the time any of these devices will get the Android Pie update, Google would be already seeding Android Q developer preview. This fact itself sums up the reason why LG’s devices, with the best of hardware, are not popular among the developer community and regular users likewise.

It'll be almost seven months since the official rollout of the Android Pie that the LG G7 ThinQ will be getting the OS version. Too slow!

It's not the only one to be rolling out the Pie update in a slowish manner, but there are a few other brands too. Generally, this all makes the Android distribution slow.
