LG has announced that its webOS-powered Smart ThinQ television models are all set to receive native Hotsar app. It will help users to access Hotstar content much faster and in a more convenient way without having to go for workarounds. The announcement seems to be exclusively for the Indian market from where Hotstar sees the majority of its viewership.
Hotstar is an Over The Top (OTT) platform known for providing TV shows, movies, live TV channels, and sports content. It features content from around the world including local Indian content. Some of the widely popular content available on the platform include Avengers franchise movies, Game of Thrones, The Big Bang Theory, Koffee with Karan, Modern Family, How I Met Your Mother, Grey's Anatomy, and Dexter. In terms of sports, it offers Indian Premier League, ICC Cricket World Cup, English Premier League, Bundesliga, and Formula 1 among others.
LG has not mentioned any specific TV model numbers which mean as long as your LG TV runs on webOS and is a Smart ThinQ TV, you should be able to access the native Hotstar app. Even an availability timeline has not been shared yet. This makes it difficult to say when one should expect the app to become available on smart TV. If you have an LG webOS smart TV, you can surely try checking the app store manually to see if the app is there.
Sidharth Shekhar, Executive Vice-President of Hotstar said,
“We are happy to partner with LG in making the Hotstar app available on their WebOS platform. This strategic association will enable LG smart TV consumers to transform their TV viewing experience and access our expansive entertainment library as well as live sports and news, seamlessly on their TV screens.”
