LG G8S ThinQ coming to global markets starting this month

02 July 2019 0

LG has officially launched the LG G8S ThinQ for the global markets after its initial unveiling at MWC 2019. It will be going on sale in select markets of Europe, Latin America, Africa, and the Middle East starting this month. The actual launch date may vary for different regions which will be announced locally accordingly.

The LG G8S ThinQ has been marketed as an affordable LG G8 ThinQ variant but is packed with all of its unique high-end features. The biggest highlight is the Z Camera which is LG's marketing name for the front-facing 3D ToF (time of flight) sensor. It can be used for different purposes including biometric recognition and Air Motion gestures. The first one is about detecting the user's unique circulatory pattern with the help of infrared light and unlocking the phone.

As for Air Motion gestures, users can use their hand to make gestures in the air to accomplish certain tasks hands-free. These include the likes of controlling the media playback like play/pause and volume control. It is undoubtedly a fun way to interact with your phone but as you might expect, it is not exactly accurate or works all the time.

In terms of specifications, the LG G8S ThinQ sports a 6.2-inch Full HD+ (2248 x 1080 pixels) OLED FullVision HDR10 display with 18.7:9 aspect ratio and a notch. It features the Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 processor coupled with 6GB of RAM and 128GB internal storage. There is a triple rear camera setup with a 12-megapixel standard sensor (f/1.8 aperture), a 13-megapixel super wide angle sensor (f/2.4 aperture), and a 12-megapixel telephoto sensor (f/2.6 aperture).

The front camera is an 8-megapixel standard sensor with an f/1.9 aperture. It is accompanied by the Z Camera that we talked about in the beginning. The whole package is powered by a 3,550mAh battery with Quick Charge 3.0 fast charging and runs Android 9 Pie. Other noteworthy features include a fingerprint scanner, MIL-STD-810G durability certification, and IP68 certification for water and dust resistance.

The LG G8S ThinQ has been launched in Mirror Teal, Mirror Black, and Mirror White color variants. There are no words on the pricing as it will be revealed locally for each market.
