Mobile World Congress (MWC) is the biggest mobile technology trade show that takes place annually in Barcelona, Spain. It is attended by numerous brands including the biggest ones where they take the stage to showcase new products and technologies. It seems like it will be missing out on some of those brands as LG and ZTE have pulled out of MWC 2020 citing Coronavirus concerns.
ZTE is the first major brand to make the announcement where it revealed that it will not attend MWC this year. It said that while the decision has been taken mainly due to travel-related issues like visa delays, it also mentioned Coronavirus in the statement. Its spokesperson said, "We tend to be an overly courteous company, and simply don't want to make people uncomfortable."
The second brand to follow the suit is LG and has decided to refrain from visiting MWC in Barcelona. It has also mentioned reasons on the lines of the Coronavirus outbreak for the decision but has clarified that it will hold a separate event for announcing new products. Here is the official statement shared by LG:
"With the safety of its employees and the general public foremost in mind, LG has decided to withdraw from exhibiting and participating in MWC 2020 later this month in Barcelona, Spain. This decision will prevent needlessly exposing hundreds of LG employees to international travel, which most health experts have advised."
These are the only two major tech brands to have dedicated to skip MWC 2020. The even is still a couple of weeks away and we will not be surprised if some more brands make similar announcements.
