Nintendo Switch has become the fastest selling gaming console in the US. The company has sold more than 4.8 million units in just 10 months in the US alone. Nintendo released the Switch for $299 on March 3, 2017.
This is the highest number of units sold for any home video game in the US history. Nintendo Switch surpassed Wi system, which had sold 4 million units at the same time.
Nintendo Switch’s success is attributed to its games like Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild which was owned by 55% users. 60% of Nintendo Switch owners have Super Mario Odyssey making it one of the highest-rated games in history. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and Splatoon 2 have also seen high adoption rates of more than 50% and 20%, respectively.
Nintendo revealed that third-party developers have created over 300 games for Nintendo Switch, which include popular brands like FIFA 18 from Electronic Arts, Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle and Just Dance 2018 from Ubisoft.
“Fans across the country have experienced the joy of playing their favorite games at home or on the go,” said Reggie Fils-Aime, Nintendo of America’s President and COO. “Now that many more people have received Nintendo Switch systems for the holidays, we look forward to bringing them fun new surprises in 2018 and far beyond.”
"We believe that this is because the core proposition of Nintendo Switch, a home console that you can play anytime, anywhere, with anyone, is resonating with consumers," said Reggie Fils-Aimé, president and chief operating officer of Nintendo of America. "It's a whole new way to play video games, and a whole new way to think about what 'home console' means."
