Apple cuts production orders for 2018 iPhone models

19 November 2018 3

Apple has reportedly cut production orders of all three of its iPhone 2018 models due to lower than expected demand.

Apple’s decision to launch a number of variants is also a factor which has made it more difficult to anticipate the demand for the number of components and handsets needed. The Cupertino giant shocked investors during its earnings call a few weeks ago where it stated that it anticipated lower-than-expected sales forecast for the upcoming holiday quarter.

Apple’s cheaper iPhone XR model was forecasted to have a huge demand, leading to a super cycle for the Cupertino giant. However, Apple has cut down its production plan by up to a third of the nearly 70 million units which were given to suppliers and component makers earlier due to a lack of demand. Apple has recently cut the production orders for the iPhone XR components even further.

Apple’s latest phones, the iPhone XS and XS Max were released in September, while the iPhone XR model hit the shelves in October. Apple hasn’t responded to request for comment on the matter.
