Huawei’s homegrown OS may be known as Hongmeng OS

20 May 2019 4

Huawei has been under a lot of pressure of late due to the ongoing US -Chinese trade war. Big US brands like Google, Qualcomm, Intel, and Broadcom have severed ties with Huawei with immediate effect. Hence it was rumored that Huawei may announce its own Operating System, which it had been working on for a long time.

Recently, Huawei’s top executive had confirmed the presence of this operating system as plan B should any condition like the one that has popped up, arises. However, the company has always refrained from sharing any further information on this. Today, according to resources, we’ve come to know that Huawei has been working on its own operating system since 2012 and it may be called as “Hongmeng”.

It is not yet known if Hongmeng will be the official name of the OS or it’s just a codename. Though the company in a statement said that it is going to support all its already sold or in stock devices with Android updates and security patches while it is hopeful that the issue would be resolved soon.

Consumers, on the other hand, are panic-stricken about the future of their devices thanks to the executive orders from President Trump in the United States, to blacklist the company. We would like to clarify that there will be no immediate impact whatsoever on how your smartphone operates and users do not have to worry as everyone along with Huawei is hopeful that this standoff may soon be resolved.

In a number of stories I read that Huawei has been working on its own OS "for a long time". But that "long time" was since 2012!! Indeed quite long! 7 years.

Hmm... Same query and am curious to know it too. Either Huawei was indeed expecting this to happen or it's just that they started working on a home OS and it's a coincidence that the work started that long is paying off now.
