HTC appoints a new CEO to grow 5G and XR sectors further

17 September 2019 0

HTC has appointed a new CEO who will now guide the company in the next stage of the journey. The name of HTC’s new CEO is Yves Maitre and he comes from telecom giant Orange where he served as EVP of Consumer Equipment and Partnerships. The current chief Cher Wang steps down but will remain the Chairwoman of the company and continue to focus on future technologies that align with HTC’s vision.

When announcing the new CEO, HTC didn’t share any specific future plans but did say that the company will continue to focus on the areas where it excels. So, don’t expect to hear about any smartphone plans as of now, though the company does foresee great future in all the sectors where it invests in.

HTC specifically stresses on the 5G and XR sectors which are currently flourishing and looks to bring more serious changes via them.

Maitre says,

“We will set out immediately to continue the transition from building the worlds' best consumer hardware to also building complete services around them to make them easy to manage and deploy."

Wang believes the technology across 5G and XR will continue to grow and Maitre will take the company to a new height.

Recently, HTC Taiwan’s President Darren Chen also shared a few details on the company’s prospects and what the company thinks of the tech industry. HTC will be more cautious when launching smartphones. Currently, it plans to launch new 4G models in the Q4 2019 and roll out 5G phones in the next year. HTC is also working to integrate its VR solutions with handsets and 5G networks as a means to differentiate its smartphones from competitions.

HTC hasn't been doing great when it comes to smartphones. It is marked as the lowest in the industry currently. But this hasn't stopped the company to innovate. It's doing great in other equally important markets and does hope to make its condition better where it lacks. The company is not sitting idle and knows how its smartphones business is going. It doesn't want to keep this segment stagnant and hence planning ways to at least be in the segment and look for any great happenings.
