As speculated previously, Microsoft has finally released an upgraded 13-inch Surface Book 2 variant with the latest Intel Core i5 processor. It has been a quiet release as there were no official announcement or social media post. The team simply made the variant listing live on official website's configuration selector page.
The new 13-inch Surface Book 2 variant comes with 8th Gen quad-core Intel Core i5-8350U processor. It also has 8GB of RAM and 256GB of onboard storage. This is an upgrade over previously available 7th Gen dual-core Intel Core i5 processor which is still listed for anyone interested in purchasing one. Microsoft has priced the latest model at $1,499 and has slashed pricing of the older one by $200 (now available for $1,299).
The latest release is expected to offer a significant performance boost in comparison with the previous release. Although, the latest Intel Core i5 processor variant still does not come with a discrete GPU. This is something you should keep in mind if having a dedicated GPU is a priority for you.
The 13-inch Surface Book 2 sports a 13.5-inch PixelSense display with 3000 x 2000 pixels resolution. For those who want more power, there are variants with quad-core Intel Core i7 processor and dedicated NVIDIA GPU as well. There are no prizes for guessing that they cost a lot more.
