Microsoft has released a new command line application called Windows Terminal. It is more powerful and feature-rich than the currently available Command Prompt which has been there on Windows for years now. The new application will surely be appreciated by those who spend a lot of time working on the command line.
Windows Terminal features tabs, themes, and support for GPU-accelerated rendering. It is aimed at becoming a central location for all command line needs like PowerShell, Cmd, and the Windows Subsystem for Linux (WSL). The tabs will allow users to open different consoles within a single window and switch among them effortlessly.
It further has support for themes, tabs, tear-away windows, shortcuts, full Unicode support, including East Asian fonts, and more. All in all, the new command line application is also focused on offering a customization experience instead of the standard Black background.
The all-new Windows Terminal is set to become available for the public sometime in mid-June. Although as it can always happen with any product or service release, there could be a change in the plan if something unexpected happens.
