Microsoft has released a new Windows 10 Insider build named Windows 10 20H1 build 19018. This new build is currently available only for Fast Ring Insiders which means if you are on the Slow Ring, you will have to wait before it expanded to your group. It is a minor update with only a couple of new features and a number of under the hood changes and improvements.
The biggest change included in the build is the addition of Quick Searches within Search Home. There are four quick searches named Weather, Top News, Today in History, and New Movies that are visible on the bottom. Each of them is like a separate button that can be clicked to get relevant search results.
While all these quick searches are self-explanatory, here is a quick overview of what each one does:
- Weather: Check current weather updates and forecasts
- Top News: Latest news headlines accumulated from various top news sites
- Today in History: A list of four events that happened in history on that particular day
- New Movies: Check movies that are playing nearby you
Microsoft has said that this is a server-side change and is available on Windows 10 version 1809 or higher. It means even if you are not a Fast Ring insider, you will still get access to quick searches. However, the feature is currently limited to those who are residing in the United States and will be expanded globally "soon".
The second major visible change is the way Search Home now shows web previews of search results. There are some minor UI related tweaks that you can see in the screenshot below. It is unknown whether this particular change is rolling outside of Fast Ring or not.
As for behind the scenes changes including bug fixes and performance improvements, Microsoft has published a lengthy changelog that covers all the bases. It has even mentioned what are the known issues with this new version. You can check all of these details by clicking the source link below.
