Microsoft is supposedly working on the Surface 2 as a leak on the same suggests so. The leak reveals the processor name and other key details that Microsoft’s upcoming mini-surface may be using.
A new benchmark spotted by Tom’s Hardware on Twitter shows the device is coming in two options. The base model of the Surface 2 should arrive with a Pentium Gold 4425Y dual-core CPU. This processor is based on the Amber Lake architecture rather than the previous generation’s Kaby Lake.
Furthermore, it will have Intel UHD 615 graphics, 8GB RAM, and 128GB SSD. The first-generation Surface Go came with an Intel Pentium Gold 4415Y processor that could hit a 1.6Ghz clock speed. The Intel Pentium 4425Y which is expected to come in the upcoming Surface-mini run Intel Pentium 4425Y that runs at 1.7GHz with two cores and four threads.
On the other hand, the top model is going to have Intel Core m3-8100Y CPU running at 1.10GHz with 2 cores/4 threads with a boost speed of 3.4GHz. Also, expect to see Intel UHD 615 graphics, 8GB RAM, 256GB SSD.
According to Windows Central, the m3 CPU variant shown by the source _rogame on the Twitter line up with leaked Geekbench scores of what could be the Surface Go 2 with the same processor. So, this makes the tweet plausible, but we would still say to take it with a pinch of salt at this time.
Both the machines will run full Windows 10 64-bit, so you will have access to all Windows 10 apps including full Adobe Photoshop. The price and launch of the alleged Surface 2 are unknown but if the leak is true, this is going to have a significant performance boost. Also, expect it to do a tough competition to the iPad Air that starts at $499 for 64GB storage model.
