If you will visit the official product page for the Microsoft Surface Duo, it mentions a tentative release timeline to be around Holidays 2020. This is the same as what was announced at last year's showcase event but as per recent reports, the launch is speculated to happen much sooner. Now a new leak claims that the Surface Duo launch could happen within the next two months.
The leak is coming from Zac Bowden, a Windows Central author, who tweeted the information citing his own sources. He mentions that Microsoft is considering releasing Surface Duo ahead of the Samsung Galaxy Fold 2. The second-generation foldable phone from Samsung is reported to get official on August 5th alongside the Galaxy Note 20 series.
I'm told Microsoft wants to launch Surface Duo before the Galaxy Fold 2 is announced. So, before August 5th? We're getting close. Assuming plans don't change, Surface Duo should start shipping in less than 2 months.— Zac Bowden (@zacbowden) June 12, 2020
If we consider the alleged Galaxy Unpacked 2020 event date to be true, it gives us an approximate waiting time period of two months. Moreover, Bowden is of the belief that if plans remain unchanged, then Microsoft should not only release the Surface Duo but also start shipping the units to buyers.
Microsoft showcased two foldable devices Surface Duo and Surface Neo last year with the release set for Holidays 2020. While the Duo appears to be on track, the Surface Neo release has apparently received a setback. It is reported that the device as well as its operating system Windows 10X has been pushed back to 2021. It is expected that the global COVID-19 pandemic has affected Microsoft's plans of working and releasing the device.
