There was a time when Motorola used to be one of the most reliable OEMs when it came to releasing software updates. In the past couple of years, the situation has changed drastically with no surety over if and when an update will be released. But there is finally some good news for Moto Z3 Play and Moto Z2 Force users as both these devices have started receiving Android 9 Pie.
Starting with the Moto Z3 Play, the Android Pie rollout is said to be currently underway in the United States and only for the unlocked variant. It is worth noting that Motorola had originally published Android Pie release notes in February 2019 but no one actually received the new version. It started releasing the update for Canadian users a few weeks ago and now, it has finally turned its attention to American users.
If you are unlocked Moto Z3 Play user in the US, you should be receiving an update notification soon. It should bring Android Pie which will add features like adaptive brightness, adaptive battery, Digital Wellbeing, redesigned notification panel, and new settings interface among others. The update also adds May 2019 security patch level which is good to know for sure.
On another hand, the Moto Z2 Force Android Pie update rollout is currently limited to Brazil. Motorola is well-known for soak testing new software versions in Brazil which means it is likely to be a test as well. If you don't end up receiving the update, you should wait for the stable update to begin which can take anywhere from a few weeks to a few months. But we will try to keep you updated with Motorola's update plans which have started to become more and more unreliable.
