The Moto G7 series debuted in February 2019 and considering the time that has passed since then, it is safe to assume that Motorola would be working on its success for next year's release. A mysterious Motorola phone also leaked earlier this month and now, new XDA reports have surfaced detailing specs about Moto G8/G8 Plus and Moto G8 Play smartphones.
The first report cites a reliable source while mentioning specifications of a smartphone that can either be Moto G8 or Moto G8 Plus. It is said to be in the prototyping phase with model number XT2019-1 or XT 2019-2. The phone in question here is reported to sport a 6.3-inch Full HD+ (2280 x 1080 pixels) display suggesting there is not much difference when compared with the Moto G7.
The performance is one aspect where Motorola is expected to deliver significant improvement. The Moto G8 is claimed to feature Qualcomm Snapdragon 665 processor which we have already seen in the likes of Realme 5 Pro, Redmi Note 8, and Mi A3. The base model will offer 4GB/64GB configuration but there can also be variants with 6GB/64GB and 6GB/128GB configurations.
The Moto G8 is said to come with triple rear camera setup comprising of a 48-megapixel primary sensor with f/1.79 aperture, a 16-megapixel wide-angle sensor with f/2.2 aperture, and a 5-megapixel depth sensor with f/2.2 aperture. It will have a 25-megapixel front camera with f/2.0 aperture. There will also be camera features like portrait mode, night mode, and smart composition.
It will be running Android 9 Pie out of the box but with Motorola's own customizations and unique software features. This is because it is not an Android One offering.
Like the Moto G7 Play, the upcoming Moto G8 Play will be the most affordable offering in the Moto G series for 2020. It has been reported to arrive with XT2015-2, XT2016-1, or XT2016-2 model numbers. These numbers will vary from market to market which is a common practice among OEMs. One of these models was also spotted in an FCC listing recently which is another reason to believe the report.
The display size for the Moto G8 Play is unknown but it will offer HD+ (1520 x 720 pixels) resolution and 19:9 aspect ratio. Under the hood, it is expected to come with MediaTek Helio P60 or P70 processor with 3GB or 4GB of RAM and 32GB or 64GB of onboard storage. It will be powered by a 4000mAh battery and run Android 9 Pie out of the box.
It will have dual SIM and NFC support but exact availability of one of these, both or none of these connectivities will differ from market to market. The details regarding the camera department are currently unknown. The color variants are reported to be named as Iron and Cosmo with availability expected for Brazil, Latin America, Asia Pacific countries, and Europe.
